Law and economics, also known as the economic analysis of law, emerged as a distinct research program and scientific movement in the mid-20th century. While it began by applying microeconomic principles to understand how legal rules, as formal constraints, affect decisions of economic agents, over the decades law and economics has evolved significantly, expanding its scope to virtually all areas of law, establishing links to behavioral economics, employing advanced empirical methods and cross-disciplinary approaches. Today, it addresses a myriad of contemporary issues such as, e.g. environmental regulation, intellectual property in the digital age, or economic analysis of constitutions.

This Special Issue invites papers to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Polish Association of Law and Economics (PSEAP – Polskie Stowarzyszenie Ekonomicznej Analizy Prawa). It aims to reflect on the legacy of law and economics by commenting on foundational works and historical developments that have shaped current theories and practices. It seeks to highlight methodological advances by showcasing latest empirical studies, experimental designs, and interdisciplinary approaches enriching the field. Focus will also be on timely issues, as well as pressing legal and economic challenges, such as technological progress, environmental policy or globalization. Additionally, this publication aims to emphasize practical applications by presenting insights that can influence policy- and law-making. We welcome contributions from all areas of economic analysis of law, broadly defined. Papers can address recent or historical questions, using various methodologies. We invite contributions with a general focus, as well as relating in its substance or scope to Poland and/or Central Europe.
